I treated myself to a sewing class (here) tonight, instead of teaching others I got to make something for myself. I chose the exposed elastic waistband skirt technique, similar items have been around every store lately. This one was made of fuchsia dupioni and took about two hours. I think that since I didn't have to work very hard and very long on it I might fiddle with it a bit. Make it a little less full and maybe a little shorter, but the jury is still out on the length.
It turns out that this picture is very unflattering but I will survive it if barely...
The little Express cardigan is a default choice, a bodysuit from American Apparel would be my preference. By the way what's up with the completely rabid poses of the models on that website!!!!
I would also love to sport a belt like this one from Jcrew :
I tried it on yesterday with this black skirt but ended up with just the skirt, I thought it too expensive. I want to try an make one for the purple skirt above. It would be like waist jewelry.
How lovely to be able to contemplate a shorter skirt!
Ugh, American Apparel. I go in there once a year, if that. And it's usually t buy some solid coloured item for a Halloween costume. I am about as liberal as they come, but the soft core porn does me in.

Your skirt turned out very nice! Even better since you didn't have to spend very long making it. You have the legs for shorter but I think it looks wonderful at the current length. I'm sure it would look great with the J Crew belt too.
Yikes, The AA site is scandalous. I'm wishing I had not looked. :P
Did you find a secret room at Yellow Bird for the lessons? It must be larger than I remember.

Such a pretty color purple. The shine of the silk is luminous.
I think it is the perfect length, but if you'd like it shorter, go for it!
Feeling inspired to dust off the sewing machine.
