Sometimes, fiction is better than fiction. The character of Irene Adler for example didn't leave much of an impression on my young mind when I devoured The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes as a child, but have Rachel McAdams play a much expanded/invented Irene in the recent movie and I am smitten by the idea.
Spoiler Alert!!!
As she is most prematurely dispatched in A Game of Shadow, I wept a little and last night went to work on a fantasy tribute of sort.
Here it is, three monograms to echo the crimson handkerchief, prettier I think than her red effort (see first and second movie).
Much like a knitter staring at a particularly interesting hat on the big screen instead of paying attention to the plot (think Hermione in The Deathly Hallows I cemetery scene), I now spend too much time noticing monograms and embroideries on everything, even the head rests of a period train!
To say that I am enjoying the new Bernina 580 would not cover it, I simply cannot stand the silence it make when it's not stitching anything...
The monogram was purchased from Anna Bove Embroidery. I cannot recommend her work enough, it's all simply stunning yet very affordable.
I cannot believe you can make something so beautiful with a sewing machine. Keep up the good work!

Beautiful! I'm sitting here trying to figure out how the machine does that! I have a hard time watching anything on stage anymore without thinking about the costume designer and stitchers. Recently we went to a Choir concert at the U and the conductor's suit coat seam was hanging down in one spot. It bothered me so much that I had to tell someone during the intermission! They took care of it but with a temporary fix because it came down again and bothered me the rest of the evening.
