Here I go again with the furniture! This is supposed to be a sewing blog, and in fact there is a little sewing retreat with K in my future, but for now, let's stay focused on what might be the best thrift store find so far. A lobby chair from the Sikes company in walnut from the 20's.
It is heavy! and scratched, looking as if it's been in the winter snow since the 80's but after negotiating the price down with the goodwill manager, something you are not likely to do at Savers, he called me a regular (I prefer enthusiast) and gave me a good price ($13).
Being so terribly weathered, it had the potential to end up as firewood, but after spending the evening sanding (grit 100) I can report that beneath the sad and distressed, all is well. I shall endeavor to post some sanded pictures later on. So far Uli hasn't managed to injure this old dame any further...
Gorgeous! The chair looks so sturdy. Great job!
