A few months ago as I started enjoying staging orchids more and more, I pondered the possibility of interning at a flower shop, eventually ... when Finn is in first grade etc... But the idea proved to be rooted (!) too deep and last week after petitioning a few local florists I started an internship at Brown Floral here in Holladay. The shop is only a short walk away from the house and they are very flexible with Finn's needs, so it's a perfect fit.
Apparently I am extremely lucky as they "never ever" take interns, and I must agree that despite the fact that it is the hardest, most physical sort of work I have ever undertaken it is also fantastic and a perfect fit for me.
As a thank-you for my work so far, the shop owner let me bring in two of my favorite containers and stage them for our annual Christmas dinner for Thomas' team. I used winter greens and an assortment of tulips, freesia, mums, carnations and green buttons.
One of our guests also brought us a mixed bouquet simply wrapped in green paper. Mixed bouquets are not my forte and so it was fortuitous as I got to practice. The arrangement is actually done in wet foam, I am not sure it would be at the shop, but it gave me some peace of mind when it comes to the placement of the heavier flowers in a rather shallow vase.
Many more bouquets to come in 2013 I am sure, I hope you like it!
Congratulations on the internship! And they will realize how lucky they are to snap you up. Beautiful arrangements!
