We are back from France and kicking! Finn started kindergarten and made a new friend already and I am trying to get my head around his new schedule; having a little boy to entertain every day and never being able to delay things to the next daycare day. More than ever I repeat this mantra in my head "follow your intent!". If I want something done, something tossed, something planted I try to do it all at once or it's guaranteed to lay there for the foreseeable future.
But moving on to the exciting part of this post:
We have a new kitchen table, the crumbling orange Ikea table is gone, replaced by this one below, hacked from an Ikea PS 2012 bamboo top kitchen table and a large marble coffee table top scavenged from the local classifieds.
Cost:
table top $100
Ikea table $179
wood scraps free
liquid nail glue? $5
total: $284
The chairs are hand-me-down from Karen. She has had them so long that they no longer appeal to her the way they do to me. Her husband had painted, antiqued and distressed the original wood finish (he is professionally qualified to do so!). They now need yet another paint job, to fit in our home but I am stumped as to what color to choose, a french grey or something with more pep... more on this another day. More pictures here.
The inspiration behind the table is a cross between an oval Saarinen tulip table and the incredible long oval bistro table in the dining room of my cousine Marie-Alix Paris flat. Yes, you read that correctly, a dining room in a flat, tiny and super stylish, take an authorized peek for yourselves:
The table is beautiful! But I am confused - the new table is in the dining room or the kitchen?

Lisa!
thank you for your comment. The table is for the kitchen. I hope one day to use the office as a dining room!
