When Allie from Indiesew contacted me to participate in their fall collection blog hop I got very excited by the patterns she had selected, take a look for yourselves: pants, leggings, a tunic, a scarf, a raglan and of course a bag.
I had my pick of three patterns and I went with the Lane Raglan, the Hudson Pants and The Commuter Cowl.
Allie wanted us to have fun with the patterns and personalize them if we wanted. I could not find the kinds of sweater knits I hoped for locally so I had to settle on french terry. It makes for some thick cosy pieces I want to snuggle in and lounge around. As the temperature go down they might be perfect for a bike ride in the evening.
I shortened the raglan (size s) in the sleeves by 8" and the body by 3.5". It is more suitable to my petite stature. I love the lace + knits trend lately and couldn't help myself when given the opportunity to customize. The cotton lace is thick and durable, no risk of snagging on the hardware of a handbag or bike parts. I simply cut the lace with the same pattern piece as the front piece and basted the edges of the lace and knits together before I serged the hems.
The Hudson Pants came together with the same modifications as the top, the lace is in the pockets this time. I went with a size 6 as per pattern instructions and think that going a size down next time as well as removing about 1" from the crotch would be a safe bet and a little better fit. They are very comfortable as they are none the less.
For the cowl I used a gauzy (I thought so anyway) white fabric. The way the cowl is put together is super nifty, a bit like a 3-D puzzle. After this version I recommend going with the smaller size (I believe it would help support the blousiness) and buying the softest drapiest fabric you can find, just like a double knit, double gauze or sweater knit.
A nice outfit to fit right into the gaping hole in my wardrobe where lounge wear and sleep wear should be!
I'm obsessed with that lace overlay! Gorgeous!

I love the overlay! Really makes this laze about the house outfit extra special! The cowl is very nice too. Something I could see my girls really enjoying. :D
