Frozen apple wedges work well. They just dissolve when chewed on.

Cooked carrot spears. Puffed millet.

Watermelon is also good, frozen or otherwise, but not a common winter fruit!

I love your blog...strawberries would work well but give just a little...my middle son had the worst case of hives the dr. had ever seen after I gave him strawberries!

be careful with strawberries and other berries due to allergies... I like the website www.wholesomebabyfood.com

great picture of the fruit, makes me want to run out and buy peaches. love this header too, what a cute baby!

Thanks for all your great tips so far. I'm wondering if you would consider a post on your favorite beginner finger foods? My little guy (8 1/2 mo.) still loves my homemade purees, but he's starting to grab at the spoon and getting better at picking up small things, so I'd like to get going on self-feeding. So far we've tried the Gerber puffs and small bits of bread. I'm just nervous about choking because he doesn't know much about chewing yet! Thanks!

This is a great blog - as is your other blog. I hope you don't mind, but I am adding you to my blogrolls!

Bananas are also great as a finger good. They split pretty easily into 3rds lengthwise making them perfect for little hands and mouths. Mangos are also popular around here in the summer months.

We love halved frozen blueberries for the babies, and half-thawed frozen peas and lima beans. Yummy enough that they still ask for them at 3 and 6!
