I have been feeling a bit lonely as the only girl in a house full of boys. Everyday I am faced with a husband, a toddler and two male cats. For many many years I tried to hide away any pink girlie things that would come to mind and 'fit in' with the boys. No flowery wall paper, no scented candle, no makeup on the bathroom counters, no Vogue or Glamour magazine in the piles of junk, you get the idea.
I think the woman is starting to scratch it's way out of me though, and I kind of like it! I spent my down time yesterday watching YouTube videos on how to walk in high heels (it turns out that it's a learned skill and that it's all about practice, who knew?). Today I woke up with the compulsion to make adorable underwear bags. A large stash of French Country-looking fat quarters as been seating in my closet, never to see the light of day again and suddenly it's all new and perfect. French women in general cherish their lingerie and invest a lot of money in that sort of thing. I suppose I am not French enough and I want to fix it.
The bag so far is more of a prototype but then again I don't have any thing nice to store in it, yet.
I had a lot of ideas for this, but somewhat lacked time to properly research the art of scallops. I also wanted a felt divider that would peek out the sides. The felt looks wonderful when you cut it with scalloped pinking shears. Getting everything places where it should be, when you don't really know where you will end up, is intense. The square bottom looks like this for example:
and the top closes like a large flower:
The next attempt will be dainty-er, I could fit flannel pajamas in this one!
I love the lining fabric. Sweet little floral print.

What a creative way for the top to close! Fantastic.

I'm sure your husband would be more than happy to purchase you something to put in your petite lingerie bag. ;) I like the flannel pj bag though. Very cute. It's a great prototype.

I love the fabric and the design, especially the felt peeking out. Beautiful! I have a grandson (my first) coming in July and I have been sewing like crazy to get ready for my daughter's baby shower. I made the burp cloths you posted and love them! I will let you know and link back to you when I post them. My blog has been so neglected lately, but will hopefully be revivied with all my baby projects. Thank you for the inspiration!

Your opening paragraph made me giggle. I, too, am the only woman in our house. Even though the two cats are neutered, they are still boys. It gets kind of claustrophobic sometimes - maybe I will go adopt a girl cat :)
