At last I can be completely secure in announcing my great and exciting news!
We bought a cabin in Summit County, on a ridge with views that go on and on! It's a very small, modest building but it can be accessed year round providing we choose to pay into the plowing co-op. The cabin sits on a little under 1 acre of land at 8025 ft. I think we should see snow there very very soon.
The picture above was taken on the first day I visited the property, so are all the others on this post. The place was still in use (sort-of) by the previous owner. We have since replaced the pallets on the ground in front of the back door with proper steps. The timely arrival from France of my father has been a godsend. We have had no idle moment. It's either working on fixing pressing problems on the structure before winter or driving around town to pick up furniture from the classified and thrift stores.
Speaking of which, we, my dad and I, have so far scored:
From the classified:
one Thomasville oval table in Park City for $25. We spent the entire day yesterday and load more cash taking the varnish off the thing and sanding 'till we dropped.
four Thonet chairs for $15x4. They are quite squeaky when we sit down but stable and antiquy.
From the thrift store:
one futon frame for $19 which we also completely sanded and treated with Danish oil
From a rummage sale this morning:
an adorable little chair from Vermont $10.
It's been great fun finding all those treasures with my father, I was really not in the ikea mood lately and wanted to create a unique and eclectique space. I hope it works... more pictures to come soon.
I'll leave you with a picture of our new friend Moose, he always seems to be around.
You can see more picture of the cabin, before we bought it on Flickr.
Whoa! Where is this property? It is so dreamy...

I read your blog and rarely comment, but I'm super excited about this cabin and already imagining what you'll do with it. To own a cabin is one of my dreams, but for now I'll live vicariously through you!

This is absolutely incredible!!!! The house looks really small but when inside it seems so wide. And the view! Jaw-dropping, the last picture is amazing. Are you going to live there all year round or just for summer/fall period? Did Finn like this new place?
