Wednesday night S. and I went downtown to attend a demonstration by floral designer Sarah Winward of Honey of a Thousand Flowers. She completely blew me away, with the flower she had chosen to work with, the container (silverplated urn, of course I was going to fall for that) and her out of the box thinking on how to approach arranging. I took a few a lot of pictures of her demonstration and with her permission I am sharing them with you (click on the pictures for a larger look):
Sarah shared some tips while she was building this spectacular arrangement, a few of which I remember:
{Start with two arms ( in this case the forsythia, yellow woody stems), but make sure they do not look like antlers.}
{Work in groups of three or more, cluster, make triangles. Two flowers will look like eyes or boobs, I quote!}
{And maybe the most useful to me, work in crumpled chicken wire not oasis foam. It's earth friendly, cheap and you can change your mind without destroying the support material.}
Thank You Sarah for this extraordinary hour, I can't wait to see what Honey of a Thousand Flowers is up to next!
more to come tomorrow or so...
Beautiful! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the yellow old fashioned roses. They look like the ones I have in my backyard. I bet they smell fabulous as well. Her advice about 2's seems very sound - hahaha Looking forward to what else you have to share.
