For today's post I would like to invite you into my not-studio. I love it when crafters display their studio on their blog, I have no such extra room unfortunately and for a while it really hampered my creativity. But I have taken steps last Monday to make lemonade out of lemons and it's been a really productive week ever since.
Our house was built in 1953, I have no doubt that at the time it must have been large and state of the art, but since then things have had a tendency to swell. The house having been remodeled multiple times has big open rooms that are very conducive to family life but only three bedrooms. With family visiting from France for weeks at a time we need a guest room, and Monsieur like lifting weights so here you have it, no space for me. I had found a corner that fits my loom exactly so surely a semi-permanent set-up for the Bernina 580 could be found as well. Take a look:
The table is semi-permanent as it vibrates when I step on the pedal too enthusiastically. I hid its ugliness under a favorite quilt and voila, a sewing corner on the landing where a reading nook never happened. Finn gets the open shelves for his books and comics and I get everything else, fair don't you think?
The gourd and its skull head mini friend came home with us from the Holladay gift show. It is one of Jeni Gochnour's, my friend Lisa and I try to meet at each one she puts on. The Gourd is looking directly at the other side of the family room where the loom found a permanent space, out of the way but still looking pretty.
Your space looks lovely and your new gourds go perfectly! I think he can stay year round. I think you should be able to find a sturdier table on one of your thrift store rounds, however I do like the look of the machine on the beautiful quilt!

Hi Lisa, Thank you for your comment! I love how the machine is always ready to go now. I agree, I will find a table at the thrift store, or ikea scratch and dent... I might always leave a quilt on. What I like about having one there is that it prevents fabric from slipping off the table...

I love your space. It is bright, colorful and inviting. In my old house, my sewing area was the mudroom. It wasn't ideal. Fortunately, we bought a house this summer with a whole (small) room dedicated to my sewing, but it's in the basement. It's quite dark in there. Perhaps I should paint the walls a nice white color and add some more lighting. That might make it a bit more inviting.

Hi Lauren, Thank you for stopping by!
The space is actually in the basement too, I am afraid that the camera technology makes it look more bright than it is in reality. The space is inviting in part because it was just remodeled but I need better light above the table, like the light I have above the loom. The tall lamp is useless I need an arching lamp of some sort!

Juliette, hi.
I really like reading your blog and felt I should just tell you that I think you have a lovely home! I am lucky enough to have a so-called "sewing room" but in reality everything and anything gets dumped in there. Seeing your lovely spaces for your sewing machine and loom have made me start thinking of clearing and cleaning - thanks for the inspiration!
Déirdre.
edit: I am posting here this cute email I received this morning
